About Sarah Diaz-Bastin

I paint spontaneously and my work explores the abstract landscape of meditative and mystical experience. Study of Chinese medicine, qigong, meditation and indigenous healing practices provide the context for work that appears as spontaneous lines, ancient symbols, and universal forms. Layers of jewel-toned color allow energy and light to contrast the materiality of the textured canvas, while symbol and script breathe life and intention into the paint. For me, the creative process is a healing ritual, revealing and drawing upon the interconnectedness of our physical, mental, and spiritual natures.
